EU says not to forbid individual purchases of Russian gas

BRUSSELS, Nov 25 (PRIME) -- The new mechanism of joint E.U. gas purchases does no forbid the countries to buy Russian gas individually, a spokesperson for the European Commission told PRIME on Friday.

"This is forbidden in joint purchases, not in general," the official said.

On Thursday, the E.U. Energy Ministers preliminarily agreed on a mechanism of joint gas purchases to fill the fuel storages by December 2023. Such purchases could account for 15% of the total purchase plans by volume.

An E.U. source told reporters that the Czech representation aims at approving the measure in mid-December 2022.
